02 Cut-offs
Three clocks, and none of them move
Gate
Full containers must be in the terminal by 18:00 two days before the sailing day. Reefer and dangerous goods, three days.
Documents
Shipping instructions by 12:00 two days before. VGM under SOLAS by the same clock — no verified mass, no loading, and that is the regulation and not our preference.
Bill of lading
Draft within twenty-four hours of sailing. Corrections free for forty-eight hours, then at the tariff.
03 Why the day holds
Owned tonnage.
On seven of the fourteen services the ship belongs to KERTE. When the market tightens, a forwarder buying slots discovers that the slots have been resold at three times the rate; an owner discovers nothing, because the ship sails on the day it was always going to sail.
On the other seven we buy space like anyone else, and we say so in the table above rather than letting you find out in December.
