Responsibility

What we have changed, what it measured, and what we have not fixed. Shipping moves 80% of world trade and produces about 3% of global CO₂; neither of those numbers is a defence.

The measured figures

34 tfuel oil not burned per call at Mersin, since shore power
18.5 knservice speed on the North Europe legs, down from 21.5
11.2 ggrams CO₂ per tonne-km, fleet average 2026
2030target for the first dual-fuel newbuilding

02 What actually worked

Shore power

Since 2024 the berth supplies 6.6 kV. The main and auxiliary engines stop alongside. This is the single largest thing we have done and it only works because the port paid for the shore side.

Slower

Dropping the North Europe legs from 21.5 to 18.5 knots added a day and cut fuel on those legs by about 32%, because resistance goes up roughly with the cube of speed. Customers were asked first.

Hull and propeller

In-water cleaning every four months rather than annually. Fouling is worth several percent of fuel and it is the cheapest saving available to anyone.

03 What we have not fixed

The honest list.

The fleet burns very low sulphur fuel oil. It is a fossil fuel and there is no version of this business in 2026 in which it is not.

The road fleet is diesel. Electric tractors do not yet do Mersin to Rotterdam and we are not going to pretend otherwise; the two we run on the Tarsus shuttle are a trial, not a policy.

Air freight is the highest-emitting thing we sell and we still sell it. What we do is tell customers when they do not need it.

We do not buy offsets. We would rather report a number that is true than a number that has been arranged.

The cranes run on shore electricity and always have. Since 2024 so does the ship beneath them.
